VISUAL ARTS

Wayne County has a proud history of supporting the visual arts and local artists.  It is home to the only art museum in the country located in an operating high school.

Artists of Wayne County - view samples of their work and a short biography of these 14 nationally-recognized artists, including George Herbert Baker, Edgar Forkner, John Elwood Bundy, Edna Stubbs Cathell, Charles Conner, Maude Eggemeyer, William Eyden Sr., William Eyden Jr., Frank Girardin, Marcus Mote, William Alden Mote, Overbeck Sisters, John Seaford, and Gaar Williams.

Centerville Library - Permanent Art Collection

Leeds Gallery - in Runyan Center at Earlham College - offers traveling exhibits and local exhibitions.

MacDowell Art Gallery - a revolving art display of work by regional artists on the 2nd floor Reid Hospital's Outpatient Care Center.

Morrisson-Reeves Library - caretakers of a small, but significant collection of local artists, including Bundy and Mote, and a wonderful set of Louis Comfort Tiffany windows.

Museum of Overbeck Art Pottery - in the basement of the Cambridge City Library - wonderful collection of pottery, painting, and drawings of six local sisters recognized as an important part of our national art history.

Nettle Creek Museum - housed in the Odd Fellows hall, the museum features a wonderful mural and other works by Charles Lucien Newcomb.

Reid Hospital - take a virtual tour of the art that helps set the tone for Reid's healing environment.  Also be sure to check out the MacDowell Art Gallery on the second floor of Reid Outpatient Care Center.

Richmond Art Museum - Founded in 1898, this fine art museum has a permanent collection of American Impressionists, Taos School, the Hoosier Group, the Richmond School and other regional artists, including a small but significant collection of local ceramic artists including works by potters of the Arts and Craft Movement, the Overbeck Sisters and the Bethel Pike potters. 

Ronald Art Gallery - in Lilly Library at Earlham College - featuring exhibits from Earlham's permanent collection of  over 3000 paintings, prints and sculptures.

Wayne County Historical Museum - while art is not the main focus of this collection, they do have some wonderful Quaker artist's paintings in addition to a painting of Julia Meeks Gaar by Wayman Adams.

Whitewater Art Gallery - Whitewater Hall, Indiana University East - offers traveling exhibits and local exhibitions.
