Local
For those of  you new to this area, the rules of (green!) thumbs are:
  • Richmond/Wayne County is generally considered to be in Zone 5 for plant hardiness.
  • You might be able to use Zone 6 plants, depending upon the harshness of our winter during a particular season and the protection they receive from the surroundings.
  • Tender plants should be set out after Mother's Day when the last chance of frost has passed.
  • Cool weather vegetation can be planted earlier, for example, peas are usually planted around St. Patrick's Day.
